Projekt "Gate2yourhome" – Online-Community

This community’s scope is people living in Düsseldorf and interested on real estate opportunities.

We are publishing properties for rent in Düsseldorf suitable for one person, for singles. We publish filtered searches from well known real estate portals and we provide links to those portals. A hashtag #singlesdusseldorf is added for better access.

To complement the information, a news channel about Düsseldorf was created and pushed to the twitter account @gate2yourhome

Online community growthCommunity has grown fast and we can count 2.634 followers at the moment with an organic growing within an uneven range of 5 and 40 new followers a day.

This is the most irregular growing pace among all the communities we are managing. It is not clear yet for us why that happens, it well could be a @mention from an influencing user but there is not such a relation, we check our @mentions on regular basis and specifically when a peak takes place. It could also be a blog post with a link to our twitter account and that is more difficult to detect.

We keep on searching for it to leverage it when it is found.

Not everything is smooth and peaceful managing an online community, I remember a few days in July when I got very concerned seeing how the number of followers was decreasing, slowly, slowly but decreasing.

It was time to act, time to add or remove something.

iPhone logoWe went for a safe bet, Apple news. A channel news about Apple products was added and growth came back to normal.

Community engagement is, let us say, mild with an average of 2,4 clicks per post with no remarkable differences between the various content types.

Community is managed using product features of “Development of Online Communities“.

Next steps

There are some options moving forward

  • Community may move focus to 25+ singles population in Düsseldorf and surroundings.
  • News channel may take more articles from areas like gadgets (Apple experience is promising) and also leisure or art events.
  • There is also a numerous population of expats (foreigners who moved for business reasons) who could be targeted.
